SUMMARY It's easy to cycle from Seville airport into the town centre. From the airport there's a dirt track alongside the motorway; after a short distance on roads you reach the edge of Seville, where you join the city's excellent network of car-free cycleways which take you all the way to the Cathedral. DETAILS
From the airport (3km) Turn right out of the Departures terminal. Follow the road marked 'E5 A4 Seville', a busy slip road rising up and curving left. Watch out for cars joining from your right. After a few metres you cross the E5/A4 motorway and curve left on the road which goes on to join the E5/A4. Take the first turn-off on the right with local black-and-white signs pointing to 'Grupo Vimac' etc. It looks like it just goes to a layby or car park, but actually becomes a reasonably smooth dirt track that runs parallel to the motorway (pic). Continue along this for about 2km / 1.5 miles.
Short stretch on busy roads (1km) At the junction, turn left to join the busy road. Go straight on at the first roundabout, a busy affair with lots of traffic lights. Just before the second, large, roundabout, come off on to the footway on your right. Cross the road to join the...
Car-free cycleway (8km) From here you're on Seville's very good network of car-free, segregated cycleways (pic). You usually have priority at side roads but will have wait several times at traffic lights when crossing main roads. The town centre is not signposted, so you'll have to keep checking the map. Our route takes you through several facets of Seville: from suburban-fringe industrial estates, through social housing areas, along parks, past lively student-oriented pavement restaurants and bars, down busy streets lined with shops, and finally into the pedestrian-/tram-/cycle-only central tourist area with the magnificent Cathedral at the heart.
Enjoy your stay in Seville!
